DizDash Launches – 10/25/15
When we first set out to crete an event that revolved around some sort of competition, many ideas were tossed around. Should we do a Scavenger Hunt? An Amazing Race? Some kind of trivia-based game? We eventually decided on the current version of DizDash, mainly because of its simplicity. While most other ideas involved scoring and complicated rules, the DizDash we came up with was more or less a hide-n-seek game. Super simple…be the first to find me sitting at the secret location, and you win. How much easier could it get?
Our first DizDash event was held on Sunday October 25, 2015. The DizMeet organizers, including myself, thought long and hard about where we should setup the secret location. We first decided that we would keep this one to only Walt Disney World Resort Hotels….no Theme Parks. We further narrowed it down to only those hotels that had Convention/Conference space in them. Then we finally decided that we would set the secret location in the Convention area of the Contemporary Hotel, in a lounge area at the bend in the main hallway.
For this first DizDash, we decided to keep the grand prize simple as well, and kept it at $100 cash. We promoted the event on DizMeet.com and immediately received interest from DizMeet members. Finally, the big day came and it was time to see who would win the big prize. The coordinators setup shop at the designated location, with our iPads and computers, ready to sit there for the next six hours waiting for someone to find us, if we had to. Little did we know, we’d only have to be there for just over two hours!
The event was scheduled to begin at noon, and at that time we posted our first clue on both the DizMeet website and all our social media pages. The first clue was a closeup photo of a light fixture close to where the secret location was. We didn’t expect this clue to necessarily provide any insight as to where we were, but it was the first clue and we didn’t want to give up too much too soon. The second clue came about an hour and a half later, and it was the prize money sitting in a planter next to the secret location. Again, this was a closeup photo, but it did show some of the carpeting in the background, which proved to be helpful to the winner that found us first.
Our next clue was scheduled for 3pm, but we never made it that far. Around 2:15pm, as I sat in my chair at the secret location, I happened to look down the long hallway next to me, and I see a man with a bright Tangerine-colored DizMeet shirt walking toward me. He hadn’t seen me yet, and as he got closer, he spotted the plant that was the second posted clue. I watched as he looked at the planter, then back to the photo on his phone. He knew he was close. He then continued down the hallway, and finally spotted me. We had our first DizDash winner!
We had a short ceremonial handing over of the prize, took some photos and videos, and then made the announcement to everyone else that the big race was over. I don’t think things could’ve worked out any better on this first DizDash event. It was truly a fun event for everyone involved, and we can’t wait to do it again next month!
